Visit of Prof. Nagaraj Neerchal
09 January 2020Prof. Nagaraj Neerchal, the Vice-Chancellor of Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth, India and the former Professor and Graduate Programme Director for Statistics, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, University of Maryland, USA presented a seminar on “Old Roots, New Sprouts: Building a Successful Career by Blending the Ancient with Modern” on 09 January 2020 at the Auditorium, Postgraduate Institute of Science. Prof. Nagaraj’s talk mainly focused on how each new job is accompanied by new tools to be learned and how the ancient wisdom provides us tools to become better learners. The idea of “learning to learn” was presented in order to achieve success in one’s career. The seminar was followed by a discussion to introduce PhD study opportunities at University of Maryland Baltimore County, USA.
In addition, Prof. Nagaraj Neerchal, Prof. Thomas Mathew, Department of Mathematics & Statistics, University of Maryland Baltimore County, USA, Dr. Barry Nussbaum, Past President, American Statistical Association, USA, and Former Chief Statistician, United States Environmental Protection Agency, Prof. Tapan Nayak, Department of Statistics, George Washington University, Washington, DC, USA, and Prof. Pankaj Chaudhary, Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Texas at Dallas, USA met with the Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya, and several other Academic staff members to discuss possible collaboration opportunities between UoP and University of Maryland Baltimore County, USA.
