Programme with Sri Lankan American Knowledge Exchange
08 January 2020Representatives from Sri Lankan American Knowledge Exchange (SLAKE) visited University of Peradeniya on 08 January 2020. SLAKE is an emerging nonprofit organization, established to help facilitate sharing of knowledge between the U.S. and Sri Lanka in order to help provide scientific and evidence-based solutions and innovations to Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine related challenges. They undertake their mission by creating a database where students, professionals, and scholars in the U.S. and Sri Lanka can connect with each other to form collaborations. Under the programme one socio-economic problem in Sri Lanka will be selected to work on and this topic of interest will rotate every two years. SLAKE's priority for pilot year will be to promote collaborations related to Chronic Kidney Disease.
During their visit, the representatives met with students, researchers, professors, and other scholars in the University of Peradeniya to understand the existing international collaborations and how an organization like SLAKE could assist in their advancement. Around 30 participants were present at the programme which was held at the Faculty of Engineering.
