Research Showcase by Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia

Prof. Helen Klaebe, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Helen Edwards, Prof. Louise Hafner, Prof. Stephen Kajewski, Associate Prof. Saiful Karim, Dr. Stephen Cox and Prof. Deryn Vahl Meyer from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) visited University of Peradeniya on 13 February 2019.

QUT in collaboration with International Affairs Office and Postgraduate Institute of Science organized „Workshop on Effective Research Supervisory Practices“ for the staff and a “Higher Studies Opportunities and Prospective Research Student Workshop“ for the students. Also, two Guest Lectures were carried out at the Faculties of Allied Health Sciences and Engineering.

Two workshops and two Guest Lectures were conducted concurrently at the Lecture Room A-3-1, PGIS Auditorium, Faculties of AHS and Engineering and succesfully concluded with effective outcomes.

Associate Prof. Saiful Karim, Faculty of Law, QUT conducted the Workshop on Effective Research Supervisory Practices to the staff and the focus of the workshop was based on the Effective Supervisory Practices and Communication and Writing. Around 50 academics presented for the program and was very fruitful to the audience.

The workshop for the students was conducted by Dr. Stephen Cox, Director Higher Degree Research Studies, QUT Business School and Professor Helen Klaebe, Pro Vice-Chancellor. The presence of more than 100 students marked its significance to the students who wish to continue their higher studies.

The target audience was Mphil and PhD students where as they were nurtured with the information on proper Research Proposal Writing, Research Degree cycle, Managing Supervisory Relationships, Expectation Management and Timely Completion.

At the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, a Guest Lecture was conducted by Prof. Helen Edwards, Associate Dean, International and Engagement, Faculty of Health and Prof. Louise Hafner, Director of Research Training, Faculty of Health on 'Research in Focus', Faculty of Health, QUT.

More than 40 participants from the Departments of the Faculty of AHS have been took part in the program and Dr. Imalka Tennakoon, Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of AHS coordinated the work with regard to the lecture.

Prof. Stephen Kajewski, Science and Engineering Faculty, Head of School, Civil Engineering and Built Environment and Ms. Deryn Van Meyer, Associate Dean, International, Engagement & Diversity, Science and Engineering Faculty carried out a lecture at the Faculty of Engeering.

The main attention of the lecture was driven on 'Research in Focus', School of Engineering, QUT and around 30 academic staff of the Faculty of Engineering were gathered as the audience. Dr. Prabath Binduhewa, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering coordinated and assisted the work related to the Guest Lecture at the Faculty of Engineering.
