Meeting with Prof. Yoshiyaki Nagata, University of Scared Heart, Japan
26 February 2018Prof. Yoshiyaki Nagata, University of Scared Heart, Japan along with his research student, Wakako Kanda visited University of Peradeniya on 26 February 2018. During their stay, they focused on the process of the JAICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) project and its progress.
A wrap- up discussion was held with Prof. Yoshiyaki Nagata, Miss. Wakako Kanda and Dr. W.D. Chandrasena, Faculty of Science, Dr. Nanda Gunawardhana, Director, IAO and the research students of Dr. Chandrasena at the International Affairs Office on 02 March 2018.
At the discussion it was stated that JAICA is an educational project for the sustainable development which is not limited for the elite but for the minority as well. The reason for their visit to Sri Lanka was to carry out a possible best survey in Sri Lanka, based on the social sustainability in Uda- Peradeniya, Kandy. Accordingly, they have interviewed around 10 people and collected information on health dimension and the waste management of the area.
It was also stated that Miss. Wakako Kanda will be visiting University of Peradeniya to continue the rest of the tasks of the proposed project on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Prof. Yoshiyaki Nagata further stated that the project could be completed within two years with the current seed money they have provided by the JAICA. The involvement of the research students would be taken to the project as well. It was assured that Miss. Wakako Kanda would be facilitated with Library and Laboratory services during her stay at University of Peradeniya.
As per the JAICA’S requirement of a counterpart for the proposed project, Dr. W.D. Chandrasena was appointed as the counterpart of the project from the end of University of Peradeniya and Dr. Nanda Gunawardhana was appointed to coordinate and support the project during its conduction.
