International Relations Office

A group of 17 delegates from the National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan visited University of Peradeniya on 02 December 2019, with the objective of furthering collaborations between the two institutions. The NSYSU team was led by the Vice President for Research and Development, Dr. Mitch Ming-Chi Chou, and the team comprised of members from Engineering, Marine Sciences, Science, and Management fields.

The programme started off with a brief introductory session which was held at the Senate Room of the University of Peradeniya. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Upul B. Dissanayake, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor S.H.P.P. Karunaratne, the Director International Affairs Office, Dr. Shameen Jinadasa, Deans of the Faculties and Academic members from the Faculties of University of Peradeniya participated at the programme.

The Vice-Chancellor welcomed the gathering. An introductory presentation was done to highlight research and innovation of the University of Peradeniya. Dr. Mitch Ming-Chi Chou, the Vice President, Office of Research and Development gave an introduction to the NSYSU, highlighting their research achievements. A discussion was held after the presentations.

Following the introductory session, five different programmes were conducted in parallel at the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Management and International Affairs Office to discuss possible collaborative research opportunities in respective fields.

Dr. Ker-Chang Hsieh - Deputy Dean, College of Engineering; Professor, Department of Materials and Opto-electronic Science, Dr. Yeong-Maw Hwang - Chairman & Professor, Department of Mechanical and Electromechanical Engineering, Dr. Shu-Min Li - Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dr. Tzung-Lin Lee - Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering and Dr. Mohammed Ansar Mohammed Manaz - Postdoctoral researcher, Department of Electrical Engineering participated at the programme which was held at the Conference Room, Faculty of Agriculture.

For the programme held at the Board Room, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Dr. Chin-Chang Hung - Deputy Dean, Colleges of Marine Sciences, Dr. Chih-Chuang Liaw - Chairman and Professor, Department of Marine Biotechnology & Resources, Dr. Te-Yu Liao - Director for Research Resources, Office of Research and Development and Ms. Ming-Hsiu Chuang - Research assistant, Environmental Change Sciences and Technology Innovation Center participated together with the Academics of the Faculty.

Dr. Yu-Chung Chiang - Chairman and Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, Dr. Chun-Lin Chen - Associate Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, Dr. Tsai-Lien Wong - Chairwomen and Professor, Department of Applied Mathematics, Dr. Yen-Nan Chiang - Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Dr. Chia-Chen Wang - Director, Aerosol Science Research Center participated at the programme which was held at the Chemistry Auditorium, Faculty of Science.

Dr. Thijs Velema - Deputy Director, IBMBA & GHRM MBA Programmes participated at the discussion which was held at the Board room of the Faculty of Management.

For the programme conducted at the International Affairs Office, Dr. Mitch Ming-Chi Chou - Vice President, Office of Research and Development, Ms. Vivian Chung -Senior Officer, Division of International Relations, Office of International Affairs and Ms. Ruru Chiang -Senior Special Assistant, Academic Collaboration Center, Office of Research & Development participated in the meeting with relevant officials at the International Affairs Office.
