Workshop on "IP-Based Innovation & Tech Transfer"

With the intention of sharing their expertise with the University on commercialization of our inventions, WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) and the COSTI (Coordinating Secretariat for Science, Technology and Innovation) facilitated a Workshop on "IP- Based Innovation & Tech Transfer” on 26 September 2018 from 11.00 am- 3.00 pm at the Chemistry Auditorium, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya.

Prof. S.H.P.P. Karunaratne, Deputy Vice- Chancellor, University of Peradeniya has been invited to the workshop and delivered the opening speech, while Prof. R.D. Yapa delivered an introduction to the whole program.

Dr. Richard Cahoon, President, Bio Property Strategy Group Inc./Adjunct Professor, International programs, Cornell University and Ms. Yumiko Hamano, Intellectual Property Consultant and Partner, ET Cube International, France and Mrs. Suganthie Kadirgamar, COSTI took part as the resource persons for the workshop.

Prof. R.D. Yapa, Faculty of Science, Dr. Manjula Sandirigama, Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Janaka Ekanayake, Faculty of Engineering and Dr. Shameen Jinadasa, Act. Director, International Affairs Office represented University of Peradeniya and academia and the research students, UoP participated for the program.

Two consequential presentations were carried out by the guest resource persons and a panel discussion was conducted as the concluding session of the workshop, where it provided with comprehensive clarifications to the audience, on IP related matters.

In general, profound information on technology management system, challenges and issues such as IP Policy, patenting, licensing, specific problems and difficulties, legal issues, administration and approval processes, key performance indicator and specific technologies ready for commercialization were emphasized at the workshop.

The workshop, "IP-Based Innovation & Tech Transfer" was organized and assisted by the International Affairs Office, Science Industry Interaction Cell and the Engineering Design Centre, University of Peradeniya.
