Urban Water Management

The Center for Environmental Studies (CES) together with the International Relations Office (InRO), University of Peradeniya organized a pre-conference webinar series in connection with the 2nd International Conference of the CES, "Environmental Monitoring and Management (EMM2020)”. The first webinar on “Urban Water Management” was held on 08 October 2020 at 2.00 pm Sri Lanka (GMT+5:30).

Two eminent resource persons, Prof. Ashantha Goonetilleke and Prof. Law Wing Keung, shared their expertise on urban water management. Prof. Ashantha Goonetilleke, a Professor in Environmental Engineering at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Queensland University of Technology (QTU), Australia delivered the first talk on “Climate change impacts on urban storm water runoff: why we need to be concerned”. The second talk on “UAV-based remote sensing for environmental monitoring in coastal environment” was delivered by Prof. Law Wing Keung, Adrian, a Professor in Civil Engineering at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. S.K. Weragoda, Project Director, China Sri Lanka Research Grant Project, Ministry of Water Supply: Chief Engineer, Water Safety Plan Advisory Unit, National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Sri Lanka. Around 150 participants have joined in for the webinar.
