Prof. Edirisinghe began his talk by addressing the etymology of the name "Peradeniya". Thereafter, he moved on to three major events in history; namely, the glorious battle in the vicinity of Peradeniya, the birth of the Royal Botanical Garden and horse racing in Kanda Uda Rata including  a description of the Peradeniya race course and details of the races run on the newly laid track.
