Sri Lanka - Japan Study Center was established in the University of Peradeniya, collaboratively with the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. The prime objective of the SL-J Study Center is to further strenthen research collaboration between Sri Lanka and Japan. The Center was launched by Prof. Atula Senaratne, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya on 29th March, 2013 at the Ealr's Regency Hotel, Kandy, Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka-Japan Study Centre (SLJSC), University of Peradeniya was established on 29th March 2013 as a national center of the country to promote collaborative research and studies between Sri Lanka and Japan. It is a historic turning point, in which year the two countries commemorated the 60 years of assistance provided by Japanese Overseas Development under the Colombo plan. Sri Lanka-Japan Study Centre which pioneers in organizing this annual international conference was contributed for the benefit of students and scholars from both Sri Lanka and Japan serving as a gateway for research collaboration and mutual exchange of knowledge and services since then. The SLJSC was highlighted in the Joint Statement issued on 14th March 2013 by the H.E. the President of Sri Lanka and H.E. the Prime Minister of Japan. The annual conference SLJCR assists researchers from a wide of range of disciplines to initiate novel collaborations between two countries and strengthen existing links, thus becomes instrumental in establishing a sustainable academic research culture.
