Through our proactive encouragement of workshop participation, we empower our team members to expand their skills and knowledge base. Furthermore, we facilitate the sharing of insights gained from these workshops by providing opportunities for our researchers to deliver representations. Among these presentations, Dr. Prabhavi and Ms. Ridmi recently delivered a compelling session centered on the workshop titled "Writing Research Proposals -How AI Engines Could Help"
The New Year party at CROC on January 3rd, 2024, united the Dean/FDS, Director/CROC, and CROC staff members in a joyful celebration. Laughter filled the air as we bid farewell to the old year and embraced the new. It was an event of camaraderie and renewed bonds, setting the stage for a successful and united year ahead.
A presentation and a discussion were done on the study of "IDENTIFICATION OF MMP-9, COLLAGEN TYPE-Ⅰ (COL1A1, COL1A2), TGF-1, AND ALDEHYDE DEHYDROGENASE-2 (ALDH2) GENE POLYMORPHISM IN ORAL CANCER PATIENTS WITH BETEL QUID CHEWING HABIT IN SRI LANKA". Ms.Imashi Chamathka did the presentation while Professor Niroshini S. Soysa, Prof. Primali Jayasooriya and Temporary Demonstrator staff attached to CROC were present.
The 26th Board meeting of CROC was held on 16th June 2023 (Friday) at the auditorium of the CROC and via Zoom. This was the first Board meeting held following the appointment of the new Director of the center, Professor Niroshini S. Soysa. The delegates of the board of management were present. The Board of Management discussed the future of CROC in this meeting.
An in-service training workshop for dental surgeons was successfully conducted at the Bambaradeniya Memorial Auditorium on the 20th March 2023 organized by the Center for Research in Oral Cancer, Faculty of Dental Sciences. The resource persons for the workshop were Prof Ruwan D Jayasinghe, Prof. Dileep De Silva, Prof. Mudiyanse Rasnayake and Dr. Kalani Hettiarachchi. Important and timely topics such as the use of technology in the early detection of oral cancer and oral potentially malignant disorders, coping with challenges, and how to obtain research allowance for ministry of health employees were covered in this workshop.
A panel of experts from the GSL Dental College, India, visited the Faculty of Dental Sciences, University of Peradeniya on 3rd November 2022. This visit was organized by the Center for Research in Oral Cancer (CROC). The expert panel was welcomed by the Dean/ FDS Professor Manual Attygalla, and Director / CROC Professor Ruwan Jayasinghe, together with the academic staff members. This occasion was graced by the vice chancellor, Professor M. D Lamawase. The expert panel introduced novel concepts such as the applications of stimulations, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in Dental education. Further, they offered opportunities for student exchange programs, knowledge sharing activities, joint conference in collaboration with CROC, and invited a team of academic members to visit the stimulation lab at GSL Dental Collage in the coming year. This meeting opened avenues for many fruitful outcomes such as knowledge exchange in Dental higher education, possibility of a joint conference and research collaborations.
The opening of the research laboratory of the CROC, Faculty of Dental Sciences was pronounced with a modest ceremony on 03rd August 2022, by the vice chancellor, Prof. M. D Lamawansa and the deputy vice chancellor Prof. M. T Madhujith. This occasion was graced by Prof Manjula Attygalla, Dean, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Deans of other faculties of the University, academic staff and non-academic members, clinicians and representatives of the Health ministry. The director, Prof R.D Jayasinghe invited all parties to join hands with CROC for collaborative research in laboratory, experimental, epidemiological and clinical aspects of oral cancer.
