NCD Screening and Follow-Up

NCD screening is conducted for individuals diagnosed with any NCD and referred to the monthly clinic managed by Prof. Udaya Ralapanawa, Consultant Physician. Every university employee is included in this program and undergoes medical tests as required. The program aims to enable individuals to enjoy healthy working life and retirement.

1.1   Counseling Services

  • Stress, anxiety, and various psychosomatic illnesses are quite common in the university community, and the university medical officers have received specialized training in psychological counseling to help/treat members of the university community.
  • Counselling services are available daily 24 hrs. (from 03.08.2022)
  • Students who are found to have a mental illness or identified as having suicidal thoughts are referred to the Teaching Hospital Peradeniya (THP). Other students are managed by Consultant Psychiatrist and counsellors and are followed up accordingly.
  • We maintain records that are highly confidential.
  • Counsellors visit patients in the hospital when necessary.
  • Anyone seeking psychological support is always assessed by a medical doctor either before or after the counselling session.
  • Workshops were conducted at the faculty/department level to educate all staff members.

  • The university operates a 24-hour ambulance service that efficiently responds to emergencies. At any given time, the ambulance can reach a patient within minutes, covering a distance of up to six kilometers.
