The Health Centre was established in 1952 at the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya, during the tenure of Professor Ivor Jennings as Vice-Chancellor. Its primary objective has been to provide healthcare services to resident students and the wider university community.
To meet primary healthcare needs, the Health Centre offers a full range of services, including a well-equipped laboratory, 24-hour ambulance service, and preventive healthcare programs. It is located in a scenic setting near Sangamitta Hall, at the southern end of the university.
The Centre is staffed by a dedicated team comprising the Chief Medical Officer (Head of Department), four medical officers, and supporting staff. Together, they are committed to providing quality healthcare to all members of the university, including non-resident students and employees.
