The Zoologists' Association of the University of Peradeniya, popularly known as ZAUP, was initiated by the Department of Zoology of the Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya. The association has been a meeting place for nature lovers, budding biologists, zoologists, conservationists and ecologists for many years. The society welcomes new members every year and nurtures in them an appreciation for Mother Nature and her inhabitants; both animals and plants.
The association is recognized for the exploratory visits it organizes for all members to learn about fauna and flora in the field, throughout Sri Lanka. During these visits, under the supervision of experienced personnel, members are taught and encouraged how to handle wildlife without harming them. Series of guest lectures and talks are organized annually to share the knowledge and experience of experts with students as well as the academic and non-academic staff.
The association does not limit its services to the boundaries of the university. It goes beyond that, reaching out to school children with a thirst for knowledge, needing an extra push to reach their goals. The members organize one day seminar camps at schools to share knowledge and to encourage and inculcate an appreciation of nature and the importance of safeguarding its wonderful diversity. Furthermore, annual fundraisers are conducted to support such students in their education.
We welcome you to join us in our adventures in the wild to learn and most of all help protect our Mother Nature.
