WORKSHOP ON CONDUCTING AUTOPSY ON SEA TURTLES AND CETACEANS

A three-day workshop on autopsy of sea turtles and cetaceans commenced on December 6, 2021 at the Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science. The inaugural session was graced by Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Ms. Darshanie Lahandapura, Chairperson, Marine Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA), staff members of the faculty, Veterinarains from the Department of Wildlife Conservation, and Department of Animal Production and Health. The workshop was organized in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, Marine Environmetal Protection Authority, Department of Wildlife Conservation, and the Department of Animal Production and Health. The main objective of the workshop was to share knowledge and skills in conducting autopsies on turtles and cetaceans. Prof. Sandro Mazarriol, Dr. Guido Pietrolongo, and Dr. Giuseppe Sciancalepore from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Padova, Italy and Dr. Kavindra Wijesundera of Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, UoP contributed as resource personnel. Forensic, histopathology, and toxicology aspects were focused on during the the three-day event organized under the guidance of Prof. P. G. A. Pushpakumara, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science and Dr. A. W. Kalupahana, the Head, Department of Veterinary Pathobiology.
