The High Commissioner of New Zealand to Sri Lanka His Excellency Michael Appleton visited University of Peradeniya on 10th of November 2021. The High Commissioner was accompanied by the Deputy High Commissioner of New Zealand to Sri Lanka, Mr. Andrew Traveller and the Honorary Consul for New Zealand in Sri Lanka, Mr. Senaka Silva.

The High Commissioner was welcomed by Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya. Prof. Terrence Madujith, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya, Prof. P. G. A. Pushpakumara, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science, Dr. Madura S. Munasinghe, Former Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science, Prof. K.A.N. Wijayawardhane and Prof. C.N.R.A. Alles, Director, International Relations Office.

An overview of the University was presented by Prof. Terrence Madhujith at the very outset of the meeting and the Vice-Chancellor discussed about the possible collaborations between New Zealand and the university. Progress of ongoing collaborations between the Massey University of New Zealand and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science, University of Peradeniya were discussed at the brief meeting. Special concern was given regarding obtaining the accreditation for the curriculum of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science by the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council.
