The Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya Professor M.D. Lamawansa received His Excellency, Ambassador Santhush Woonjin Jeong, the Korean Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, at his official residence, the Lodge, on the morning of December 10, 2021. This courtesy visit of the Ambassador was graced by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor W. M. T. Madhujith, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya, Dr. E. M. P. C. S. Ekanayaka, the Head of the Department of Classical Languages, Faculty of Arts, University of Peradeniya Ms. K. M. R. N. Kulatunga, Dr. Panduka Neluwala representing the Management Committee of the International Relations Office of the University of Peradeniya, Professor Rohana Senevirathna, and Dr. Aksha Jiuen Kang, the Korean Language lecturer of the Department of Classical Languages. This visit was testament to the bilateral relations established between the Republic of Korea and Sri Lanka on November 14, 1977. The Department of Classical Languages and the Faculty of Arts in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Sri Lanka has designed a project to establish the Korean Cultural and Language Centre, the King Sejong Institute-Unit at the Faculty of Arts. This is an important juncture for the teaching of the Korean Language in the Department of Classical Languages, and will cater to the increasing demand of the university students and the staff for learning the Korean language, and for exploring the Korean culture while becoming aware of the educational and professional opportunities available in Korea for the Sri Lankans. Having met with the Vice Chancellor, H.E. Ambassador Santhush Woonjin Jeong visited the Senate, the Faculty of Arts, the Main Library and the Department of Classical Languages on a tour led by the Head of the Department.
