The Successful Completion of the Virtual Conference on "Environmental Monitoring and Management" (EMM 2020)

The 2nd International Conference of the Centre for Environmental Studies (CES) on "Environmental Monitoring and Management" (EMM 2020) was successfully held on the 23rd of October 2020 in the mode of a virtual conference. This conference was jointly organized by the Center for Environmental Studies, International Relation Office (InRO) and Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS) of the University of Peradeniya.

The Conference consisted with a grand ceremonial inauguration followed by eight technical sessions in four thematic areas. Prof. Tilak Hewawasam, the conference Coordinator and the Deputy Director (Research) of the Center for Environmental Studies, made the welcome address. Prof. S.P. Nissanka, Director of the Centre for Environmental Studies, delivered a speech highlighting the activities conducted by the Centre for Environmental Studies. Prof. Upul B. Dissanayake, Vice-Chancellor, University of Peradeniya delivered a notable speech while thanking to the organizers for conducting this conference as a virtual event. Dr. Anil Jasinghe, the Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Sri Lanka, graced the Inaugural Session of the Conference as the Chief Guest. Prof. H.M.T.G.A. Pitawala, the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Science, chaired the Keynote Session. Dr. Ananda Mallawatantri, the IUCN country representative of Sri Lanka, delivered the Keynote Address of the Conference. Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Shameen Jinadasa, the Conference Coordinator and the Director of the International Relation Office. The Inauguration Ceremony of the conference was held at the Postgraduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya which was broadcasted live to all the participants of the conference.
