The concept of Social Entrepreneurship has been advancing fast to establish as multidisciplinary discipline among scholarly community and practitioners, which impact lives of millions marginalized due to several reasons of neo-liberal economic thoughts and practices.
Social Enterprise Support in Sri Lanka (SESS) is project granted through the British Council to promote Social Entrepreneurship among Undergraduate/Postgraduates students and promote social entrepreneurship in Central and Uva Provinces. The University of Peradeniya and Uva Wellassa University were awarded Social Enterprise Support Sri Lanka (SESS) grant by the British Council for the purpose of strengthening and promoting Social Entrepreneurship within the University and Central Province.
Under this SESS project, University of Peradeniya has established a Social Enterprise Incubation Laboratory (SEIL). Through this incubation facility, it is expected to provide formal guidance/mentoring, training, and coordination between relevant agencies on Social Entrepreneurship. SEIL has already started creating awareness about Social Entrepreneurship mainly among the university students also interested parties in the Central Province.
With the aim of exploring a reasonable clarity on the models and the values to enrich the science of social enterprise in Sri Lanka, SEIL together with Business Linkage, Innovation, Incubation and Technology Transfer Office (BLII-TTO) University of Peradeniya in collaboration with Social Enterprise Incubation Cell (SEIC), Uva Wellassa University organized the Sri Lankan Social Enterprise Summit.
The summit was held on 15th October 2021, from 09.00 am -5:00 pm (Sri Lanka GMT+05.30) at Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya, both physically and virtually adhering to the health Guidelines.
