A seminar to introduce Postgraduate Opportunities in Japan was held by the Embassy of Japan on 13 February 2020 at the New Conference Room, Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS), University of Peradeniya. Around 100 participants took part in the programme. Opening remarks were delivered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S. H. P. P. Karunaratne and the Director PGIS, Prof. H. M. T. G. A. Pitawala. The Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka, his Excellency Mr. Akira Sugiyama also delivered a speech at the programme.
Prof. Kamala Liyanage, an Emeritus Professor in Political Science, University of Peradeniya shared her experience with the participants and motivated students to apply for Postgraduate studies in Japan. The presentation organized by the Embassy of Japan included Postgraduate programmes in Japan, the application procedure, scholarship opportunities and other funding sources. A brief question and answer session was also held at the end of the presentation. Vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. W. D. S. J. Wickramasinghe, Director, Sri Lanka-Japan Study Center (SLJSC). The programme was concluded by a Japanese Film "Every day a good day".
