The first ever Peradeniya University Research Excellence Showcase [PURES] was held on 23rd March 2022 at the Joint Research and Demonstration Centre for Water Technology. The main purpose of this event was to showcase novel and cutting-edge research and many locally developed solutions for national needs. Besides, in the event, the top tier researchers of the university were recognized. The World’s top 2% scientists identified by Elsevier BV and Stanford University and Tier 4* researchers based on the transparent research performance scheme initiated by the UGC received awards. The Vice-Chancellor and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor awarded plaques and certificates to these eminent researchers. Volume 7, Issue 2 of the Hanthana Vision magazine was also launched during this event.

Leading researchers of the University, key members of Government organizations, company CEOs, and University research administrators participated in the event.

During the showcase event, over fifty research projects funded by international granting agencies, the AHEAD project, and other projects with inter-faculty collaborations were on display. Some of the main attractions included videos presented by some of our eminent researchers on patentable research outcomes such as Respirone Nano Av 99 Face Mask, and the Covi-2 Loop Test Kit. The main attractions were the e-wheeler, open-source PV inverter, non-invasive and non-transmitive monitoring of fetal conditions by the Faculty of Engineering, and Covi-2 Loop Test Kit by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science. The Centre for Research in Oral Cancer (CROC) of the Faculty of Dental Sciences and the Agricultural Biotechnology Centre of the Faculty of Agriculture also exhibited research activities.
