FISU International day of University Sports 2021 was successfully celebrated by the Sri Lanka Universities Sports Association, commonly known as SLUSA on 20th September 2021 on a virtual platform on a grand scale. Prof. Chandana P. Udawatte Vice-Chairman, University Grant Commission added glamour to the event as the chief guest and this global event was graced by the special guest Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawarathne, the Director-General of National Institute of Education, delivering his keynote speech, The SLUSA introduced Football Juggling competition open for both gender, Article competition for all three main languages, and a Sports Quiz competition for the university undergraduate students.
The International Day of University Sports (IDUS) is an important landmark in the global university calendar. It was recently proclaimed by UNESCO as a day of a global celebration of university sports. Since 2016, the whole idea of celebrating such an important occasion has been to provide a platform to exchange ideas, challenges, practices and opportunities within and through university sports worldwide.
