An intermediate care center for Covid positive patients was opened at the University of Peradeniya on 31.05.2021 under the patronage of the vice-Chancellor Professor Upul B. Dissanayake. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Parakrama Karunaratne, Deans of the Faculties, Acting Registrar, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Chandima Herath and the Health Center staff, and other officials of the university were present at the occasion. This center was established by converting the Mahakanda Hostel of the university and it has a capacity for more than 100 patients. The center is open for the Covid-19 positive university staff and their family members. Asymptomatic patients and those with mild symptoms are treated here under the supervision of the University Health Center and with the assistance of the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital. Patient admission and treatment was initiated on 02.06.2021. The University has a separate Quarantine Center at Sarasawi Medura Hostel
