Faculty of Agriculture Temporary Handover qPCR Machine to Teaching Hospital Batticaloa for COVID-19 Testing

Based on the request made by the Chairman, UGC with the approval from the Registrar and the Vice Chancellor of University of Peradeniya, Faculty of Agriculture temporarily handover a qPCR Machine with all associated items to Teaching Hospital Batticaloa for COVID-19 Testing on 17th March 2020.

This qPCR machine was purchased under the open competitive grant provided through Humboldt Foundation of Germany to Prof. Missaka Wijegunawardena (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Suranga Kodithuwakku of Department of Animal Science. which is still continuing. When requested, Prof. Wijegunawardena has happily approved the transfer of the machine as he said this is the need of the hour. Dr. Kodithuwakku spend nearly 3 days in calibrating with 3 years old calibration kit despite the new year period. He has also agreed to provide any other support in conducting testing in the Hospital. This transfer was highly appreciated by Chairman, UGC, Vice Chancellor, University of Peradeniya and Doctors of Teaching Hospital, Batticaloa and staff of Faculty of Health Care Sciences of Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
