The Ediriweera Sarachchandra Hall was declared open and handed over to the students by EW. Epasinghe, the Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya on 20th April 2015 on the invitation of Professor Athula Senarathne, the Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Ediriweera Sarachchandra(Sinhala: මහාචාර්ය එදිරිවීර සරච්චන්ද්ර) (3 June 1914 – 16 August 1996) was a Sri Lankan playwright, novelist, poet, literary critic, essayist and social commentator.[1]Considered Sri Lanka's premier playwright, he was a senior lecturer at the University of Peradeniya for many years and served as Sri Lankan Ambassador to France (1974–1977). Ediriweera Sarachchandra returned to the University of Ceylon serving as a lecturer in Pali from 1947 to 1949. He gained entry to the University of London in 1949 to study towards a post graduate degree in Western Philosophy. The University of Jaffna and the University of Peradeniya conferred Sarachchandra the degree of Doctor of Literature in 1982. Also in that year he was made an Emeritus Professor at the University of Peradeniya. In 1983 the State of Kerala in South India awarded Sarachchandra the Kumaran Asan World Prize. In 1988 he won the Ramon Magsaysay Awardfor Literature.
The common rules and regulations pertaining to the facilities of halls of residents are strictly imposed.
Private cafeteria in order to cater the food requirements of the students is available, Outdoor small sports ground facilities for the students are available, Indoor recreational facilities, Television, and Newspaper availability in the common room are available, One common Room, One large reading room in the ground floor, two small reading rooms in the upstairs are available with facilities.

There are 285 students accommodating in each hall. Both halls accommodate a total of 570 students.
There are 04 staff members including senior academic sub-warden accommodating in the hall.
Three students are accommodating in each room. There are three beds attached with three tables and cupboards. Each floor contains two bath units which consists of 6 bath showers and 5 toilets. Four tea pantries are located in each hall. Two study areas are located at the ground floor.
