Achieving University Excellence through Research


The University Research Council (URC) organized a workshop on "Achieving University Excellence through Research" on 22nd November 2022 with the collaboration of the Postgraduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya. The resource persons for the workshop were renowned Prof. Don Eliseo Lucero Prisno III Editor-in-Chief, Public Health Challenges (Wiley), Faculty Member, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine,Visiting Professor in Global Health, Taipei Medical University, Research Professor in Global Health, Wuhan University,Adjunct Professor in Global Health, Mahidol University,Director, Global Health Focus and Dr. Thinley Dorji, Youth Editorial Board, Wiley Public Health Challenges, Regional Coordinator for South East Asia, Global Health Focus,Physician, Central Regional Referral Hospital, Gelephu, Bhutan. The workshop was highly interactive and participative. The resource persons initially delivered an overview of the different topics and the following events of the training workshop. The workshop participants were made aware of research which contained its definition, approaches, cycle and the ecosystem of scientific research and publishing. Also, this training-workshop highlighted various dimensions of research work including what makes a university excellent in terms of research, what is/are the importance of doing research?, what are the challenges in doing research in a university setting, what are the strategies to increase the research productivity of the university.

The attendees were welcomed by Dr. Damayanthi Dassnayake, Director-University Research Council, University of Peradeniya. The Director further gave an introduction about the guest speakers. Professor HMTGA. Pitawala, the Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya also shared his valuable ideas with the workshop.
